Life Opportunities Trust held its second service users forum on 11th October. We concentrated on health issues, an area which can often be problematic for people with a learning disability.
With this in mind, we invited along the Purple All Stars, a group of talented individuals, all of whom have a learning disability themselves. They deliver important health messages through the media of song and dance. The All Stars performed a variety of pieces, sharing messages with our service users who attended, such as making sure you get checked for various cancers, including breast, bowel and testicular.
The All Stars also sang about the importance of having relationships and finding love, a subject that for many years was taboo in the learning disability community. Everyone who came thoroughly enjoyed the performances as well as the tea and cake which followed! Our next forum will be held after Christmas and will concentrate on issues of safety in the community.
